Waterproofing of a dam in the east of Iceland

The Kárahnjukar dam is located on the high plateau below the glaciers of the Vatnajökull in the Eastern tundra of Iceland. The artificial lake Hálslón feeds the 690 MW Fjotsdalur power station. The dam and spillways are continuously maintained and repaired and since 2019 using VELOSIT systems. So far 8 tons of repair mortars (VELOSIT RM 203 and 202) and 10 tons of our waterproofing slurry VELOSIT WP 101 have been installed by MVA ehf. The conditions on the job site allow working with cementitious materials just during a short period in summer. Even then temperatures hardly hit double digit Celsius degrees (<50° F) so that a repair system needs to be quite fast to cure in this environment.
